Scope and completion of WCO-Lite
Valid taxa: names complete until Dec 2019.
Invalid taxa: in progress.
Original citations for valid suborders to genera: complete.
Original citations for valid species: in progress.
Placeholders for all taxa were created by the original upload from Word to TW back in 2018. These placeholders are being gradually replaced in our database by full fledged entries with complete citations. However, due to a bug in the importation module of TW, authorship order was mixed-up. In the current version, only the species are not yet 100% fixed, but we are aware of the problem and working to repair everything.
Terminology of the Logonymy
The terminology used in the logonimies here in WCO-Lite (in the “Card” module) follows Dubois (2000; 2011): For a given taxon, there is only one “correct” nomen, which may be either the protonym or one of the aponyms of the kyronym.
Protonym. ● G: πρὣτος (protos), “first, earliest”; ὄνομα (onoma), “name”. ● Original spelling (protograph), rank (protohypse) and/or, if relevant, onymorph (protonymorph) of a nomen. ● Dubois 2000: 51. Protonym is the original morphonym of a nomen in the original publication where it was first made nomenclaturally available. Genuine synonymies should only list protonyms, as these are the nomina to which the author, date and onomatophore are attached.
Aponym. ● G: ἀπό (apo), “away from, far from”; ὄνομα (onoma), “name”. ● Any subsequent paronym of a protonym, modified in spelling (apograph), rank (apohypse) and/or, if relevant, onymorph (aponymorph). An aponym is established by its first-user. ● Dubois 2000: 52. Aponym is any morphonym resulting from a subsequent change, either justified or unjustified, introduced in a protonym after the original publication. Such changes may concern only spelling (following mandatory change, justified emendation, incorrect subsequent spelling), only onymorph (following new generic allocation, raising of subspecies to species rank, downgrading of species to subspecies rank, change in subgeneric status, taxonomic recognition of aggregates of species or subspecies, etc.), or both (e.g., mandatory change of ending of epithet following new generic allocation), or even simply the rank of the nomen without spelling change (e.g., when a generic nomen is downgraded to subgeneric rank, or when a family-series nomen is used with the same suffix as in a previous work but for a taxon of different rank).
