BIOGRAPHY: In the early 20th century he worked in Zagreb, since 1920, has lived in Ljubljana and there held a chair at the newly founded Institute of Zoology, University of Ljubljana. From 1951 to 1972, worked at the Institute of Biology, SAZU, which was later named after him the Institute of Biology Jovan Hadži. Regular member of the SAZU in 1938. He has focused on faunistics of caves and highlands and in this field described by more than a hundred new species and genera. His best known work is a classification system of animals. He was also active in other areas of science. When establishing the Faculty of Arts in 1919, within which they came into being zoological and botanical institute, began systematically to collect biological literature. This collection became the basis for the establishment of biological libraries (now part of the Department of Biology and National Institute of Biology). From 1927 until the end of 2nd World War II, was president of the Society for the Exploration of caves of Ljubljana.
