Current Projects

Intro (about me): Gotta visit many strange places to sample arachnids before our planet is destroyed by insensitive people. I'm investing in forming human resources and creating a healthy environment for research in my lab. I want to contribute, to share, to give. I don't care about money, positions, prestige. Want to live in a lawyer-free world.

OmniPaper - A bio-bibliographical online resource to make authors and their publications more widely known. Aim is to promote arachnology, preserve memories, and share whatever bibliographical resources I have with the world.

Opilionomicon - This is an old project started in 2003 in my lab (by me, Mendes, Moreira & Tourinho), but left aside for lack of database expertise. Initially devised as a database to manage the MNRJ collection, it soon developed into a taxonomic database for all species of Opiliones with support to images. We want to put it online so anyone can browse the species and contribute their own pictures. There a student, Luiz Antonio Vaz, writing hundreds of lines of program a day just to finish this. We hope to present an initial version by August 2006.

Opiliones World Gazetteer - I'm preparing a database containing coordinates of all published records on Opiliones in the World. Central idea is to use this with ArcView and Google Earth Pro to have general ideas of the distribution of these animals, specially in relation with WWF Ecoregions.

Tricommatinae - I'm revising this neglected subfamily which currently has 51 species. I've discovered 40 more new ones and I'm trying to organize a large review paper.

Phylogeny of Gonyleptidae - together with Pinto-da-Rocha, a much needed cladistic analysis of this large family.

Podoctidae - Together with Glauco Machado, we're trying to make sense of this interesting group.

Catalogues - After the "Laniatores of the New World", I'm preparing the rest...

Minor taxonomic work - On Ampycinae, Cosmetidae, Cranaidae, Escadabiidae, Icaleptidae, Mitobatinae, Pachylinae, Triaenonychidae...
